About Sonal

Sonal is the founder and director of The Study Pod. With over 8 years experience as a primary school practitioner, she is an experienced and dedicated teacher; who aims to inspire and motivate all children to achieve their full potential. Sonal strives to ensure quality first education to all her pupils, helping them to build a solid foundation and become life long learners!

Background

After graduating with a Law LLB (Hons) degree at The University of Leicester, Sonal decided her future career lay in the world of education. She obtained a PGCE with the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT program, which involved intense study and teaching placements. By 2012 she graduated with outstanding practice and obtained Qualified Teacher Status.

Alongside this she has also gained experience leading Mathematics in one of East London’s largest, outstanding primary schools.

As well as pursuing a full time career in both key stages, Sonal also tutored children from Years 1- 6; focussing on KS1/ 2 SATs, as well as 11+ entrance examinations for grammar schools.

Working as a KS2 SATs Marker for Pearsons has given her the skills to deliver revision lessons with helpful exam tips and techniques.

Sonal’s mindfulness and yoga journey

Having discovered yoga in 2017 through the influence of social media, Sonal began to practise in the space of her home. Through enjoyment and reaping the physical benefits of such practises, she joined weekly yoga classes and instantly appreciated how powerful the breath actually connects to the mind and body.

Being a parent herself and working with children daily, has encouraged Sonal to believe that children would hugely benefit from practising yoga and mindfulness from a young age. They also experience stress which is sometimes overlooked and if given the correct tools, can help to reduce their anxiety levels. This will also help them to make sensible choices as young adults.

As well as having a passion for yoga, Sonal has recently been certified to teach mindfulness to children by Calm for Kids. She will also be accredited by the Centre of Excellence for completing a diploma course in mindfulness for children.
